Synagogue of Tomar
It is the oldest Synagogue in Portugal still preserved. Built in the mid fifteenth century, after the expulsion of the Jewish, had several purposes as a prison and warehouse. When visiting the Synagogue don’t forget to watch the sound amplification system .
Gualdim Pais
Being the founder of Tomar, we had to dedicate him a room. Fought alongside of Dom Afonso Henriques and founded the Castle of Tomar. Was the Grand Master of the Knights Templar , and died in 1195, lying buried in the Church of “ Santa Maria do Olival” grove.
