Iria was a beautiful young woman who received education in a monastery of Benedictine nuns. Her beauty caught Britaldo attention, heir of these lands . Iria always refused his advances, opting for eternal devotion to God.
Of this love has heard Remigio , superior monk of Iria , who in a fit of jealousy gave to Iria a charmed tea, that make’s grew her belly, like a pregnancy . So, she was expelled from the convent. When Britaldo knew this situation, ordered to killed her, and her body was thrown into the Nabão river.
If you believe or not the legend, you need to visit the small church of Santa Iria, near the Nabão River, where you can enjoy the tiles and the statue of the Saint.
